Local Challenge Tuesday – Joy of Gardening!

We planted a very small garden of our own this year, using heirloom plants that we bought from the Good Farm’s plant sale this spring. Lemon basil, 2 types of heirloom tomatos, white cucumber, and some type of melon.¬†They have made it through this dry spring, and are currently thriving. Spent the weekend weeding and watering, and that is such a good feeling! I never thought that gardening could be so meditative. Getting the dirt under your nails, and sweating as much as I did, changed my mood from one of stress and overwhelmed, to relaxed. Being able to sit back and enjoy a cold beverage from the Pirate Bar, overlooking the weeded garden, and coming up with ideas of how to fix all the bounty we will soon have from the garden.
