2nd Annual Starboard Bloody Mary Contest | Dewey Beach DE Events

The Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach is renowned for their unbelievable bloody marys. With an unmatched build-it-yourself bloody mary bar, Sunday (bloody Sunday) is the place to get your fix if you are a fan of the savory recovery drink. On Sunday, May 17th, another type of bloody building extravaganza will be taking place: the annual Bloody Mary Contest.

Tito’s Vodka is teaming up with The Starboard Restaurant once again for the second annual contest hosted by the Dewey Beach restaurant. Come and watch as local bartenders show off their skills and carefully craft their bloodies in the hopes of being crowned victorious. Dewey bartenders will come out of the woodwork from all the local bars including Woody’s, The Rusty Rudder, Summerhouse, Bethany Blues, and Hammerheads. All the Starboard Restaurant’s bartenders will also participate in anticipation of defending their home turf.

The drinks are judged on presentation, taste, and creativity by a panel of five judges. Wendy Beavers and Seth Costello are among the panel of local personalities who will be judging the libations. Dickie Heidenburger is emceeing the entire competition, and is sure to get the fun going with his wacky personality.

The prize for the best bloody? Cold hard cash. $500 is awarded the winner, and so the competition is as stiff as the cocktails themselves. Says Doug Moore, a manager at the Starboard Restaurant,  “All the bartenders are friends with one another, and so it makes for a fun, albeit competitive, time. The cash is nice, but the bragging rights are almost better.”

The Starboard Restaurant loves to host events that wow and their bloody mary contest is sure to make for a fun-filled Sunday afternoon. Festivities start at 3:00PM, and the audience members participation is encouraged. So come on down, enjoy their colossal bloody bar, and watch as restaurants go head to head to win the glory!
