Many a person has passed through the Starboard Restaurant as an employee over the years; for those who love Dewey Beach, it’s practically a right of passage. Once you’re a part of the Starboard Restaurant family, you’re a member for life, and this is especially true for former Washington Redskin’s running back, Reggie Branch. Branch made the beach his home for 17 years following his NFL career, and now he’s honored to give back to the community he considers his.
For the past 10 years, Branch and his buddies from the NFL have made it a priority to come back to the beach to help raise money for local athletic programs. The Touchdowns for Kids fundraiser is a fun day of golf that raises significant funds that support sports in our local community. It benefits Rehoboth Beach Little League, Milton’s Pop Warner Football, and the Dewey Beach/Rehoboth Beach junior lifeguard programs.
These programs rely heavily on community benevolence, and in particular the Touchdowns for Kids fundraiser, because in a seasonal community, the summertime is when we make hay. This one day is a stone cast in the water, and the ripple effects are felt all year. Branch knows that supporting our local sports teams can pay off handsomely, and is grateful to be able to help each year. He and his teammates will be on hand for golfing, even completing a few foursomes, as well as enjoying fellowship.
This year marks the 11th year of Touchdowns for Kids, and it’s sure to be a memorable one. The event, hosted by Kings Creek Country Club, is always a lively day filled with horseplay, ceremony, and lots of smiles. From lunch to golf to the post-game cocktail party, Touchdowns for Kids is an event that serves the community in style.
With so many ways to be involved with sponsorships that range in price points, this is a great year to get involved. Sponsorships begin at $200 to be an individual player and go up to include Foursome Sponsorships at $800, and the prestigious Platinum Sponsorships for $3500 which come with added benefits such as first pick of celebrities to complete your foursome as well as advertisement and prominent logo placement.
Steve “Monty” Montgomery, owner of The Starboard Restaurant, says, “This is a particularly meaningful event, one where we get to see a direct benefit to the kids in our community, as well as a day of wholesome fun.” Community responsibility is a cornerstone of Montgomery’s personal and business philosophy, and Touchdowns For Kids brings it all together.
Join the fun of Touchdowns for Kids! The golf-centered fundraiser takes place on Monday, June 22nd. To register for this year’s event, call the King’s Creek Country Club Pro Shop at 302-227-8953.
