Labor Day is over. Now it’s official. Welcome back, Second Season – we’ve missed you. It’s that glorious time of year when the OC locals experience a few joyous weeks of having the warm weather and seasonal bars all to ourselves. We get to reclaim the beaches and roads, and worry not about out of state drivers driving like asshats and cutting us off as they turn from the middle lane on Coastal Highway. I happen to think that September is the best month of the year, and not just because it’s the month that I entered the world. There’s so much to love, from the perfect weather (hurricane incidents notwithstanding), to the start of football season. Sunday Funday is back, bitches!
Nerd alert: my favorite thing about the transition from hot-as-balls weather to sub-zero temperatures is digging into my closet and pulling out my boots again. I love boots of any variety – cowboy, sporty, hooker, blue suede, fur lined. That’s fur LINED, for comfort and warmth – not those silly dead-carcass-resembling Chewbacca boots. Those are ridiculous.
There is so much to look forward to over the next two months, starting with week one of the NFL season and ending with the redneck utopia that is Punkin Chunkin. I mean that in the best possible way. I love rednecks. In between there will be beer festivals, Bike Week, Sunfest, closing parties, Halloween, and numerous other entertaining events oozing with awesomeness. Be sure to check back often, as GCFL is the premiere source of information about beach area going-ons. Happy Second Season to you.
