America, it’s your birthday!

Wow, where did June go? It’s hard to believe that July will be upon us in three short days, and with it, the biggest holiday weekend of the year here in OC. The town’s population will seemingly triple, and traffic will be at a stand still from Friday through Monday morning. Beach, BBQ’s and beer will be the order of the day. I can’t wait to show my patriotism by waving around my made-in-China American flag on a stick.

If you are heading to the beach on Saturday, stop by the Amped Riders Benefit at Loaded Gun Customs on your way into town. LGC throws street parties like no other, and the money raised is going to a great cause that is near and dear to many here at GCFL. On Sunday head over to Fishtales for the annual 4th of July hot dog eating contest. The professional eaters at Nathan’s have nothing on this awesome display of patriotic gluttony.

As with all major holidays, I feel the need to point out the irony of something or other. To be clear, I’m certainly not here to start a raging political debate (or even declare a stance on anything), but I would like to point out that as a nation founded by immigrants, it’s interesting how much we have a beef with immigrants. Irony is my favorite. There is a lot that may be crazy and silly about this country, but there is absolutely nowhere else on earth I’d rather live. That’s why this 4th of July I am going to celebrate this great nation’s birthday with food, friends, beer, and possibly illegal fireworks made in Taiwan.
