1. Free wine tasting. We decided to check out one of the free wine tastings that Liquid Assets offers some Saturday afternoons. It was a foggy gloomy February, and we arrived after a quick trip to the gym. The winery that was out for tasting was Layer Cake. There was an offering of a Virgin Chardonnay from California (which i LOVED), Shiraz from Australia, Cabernet from California, and a Zinfandel from Italy. All were delicious!

2. Of course, after sampling wine we decided to have some lunch. We sat at the bar

with Shelly as our bartendress extraordinaire. LOVE her! Anywho…We went with the perfectly portioned $8 lunch special. Previously I had asked what the special of the day was, and Diana mentioned quail. Now, I have never had quail, and wasn’t sure I would order it. After we had enjoyed our lunch, Diana surprised us by bringing out the entree for us to try. At first impression, it looked amazing and welcoming.

It was grilled quail, over potato gnocchi, brussel sprouts, Benton’s bacon lardons, shallots and apple mostarda. All I can say is WOW! It had such a variety of flavors, that all came together harmoniously. There was a sweet and smoky flavor, that I can still taste, and long to have again.
3. After an amazing afternoon of friends, fine food, tastings of wine and different libations, we decided to try the newest offering from Evolution Brewery to take home. The Migration Series Bourbon Barrel Dark Ale. Such a rich, full flavor. Bourbon nose, sweet with a mocha finish.
Try it!
