What To Do With Teens on a Rainy Weekend at the Beach?

[vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”2/3″][text_output]On a recent chilly, dreary spring day we decided we needed to venture out with the kids to do something other than watch movies or play video games as a family activity. We are lucky to live in such a wonderful area full of culinary variety and locally-owned restaurants. Thankfully our children love going to restaurants as much as we do and it is always fun to introduce them to new experiences!
We packed sweatshirts and rain jackets because we did not want the crummy weather to interfere with our adventures. We began the day in Lewes, DE, the “First Town in the First State”. Of course we  were all hungry already, so we walked down the alley from where we parked and found Nectar, a juice bar and cafe that I had heard great things about. The beverage menu is full of wonderful, healthy concoctions of fresh juices for both kids and adults alike. Nellie ordered the Beauty Balm, Todd had the Dill Pickle Bloody Mary, and I enjoyed the Raspberry Mimosa. The fresh squeezed juices made everything taste so much better! Well now that the beverages had been delivered we had our choice of ordering off the lunch menu or the breakfast menu. SO MANY delicious options; it was tough to decide. The Green Eggs & Ham and Chicken Pot Pie were both very memorable dishes, we just need to go back so we can taste test some more options! After brunch, we walked around the small historic town and spent a good amount of time perusing the shelves at Biblion, the small used book store with some great finds. Back in the car and headed south…[/text_output][/vc_column][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/3″][image float=”none” src=”22971″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/3″][image float=”none” src=”22974″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][image float=”none” src=”22975″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][/vc_column][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”2/3″][text_output]Turned east off of Route 1 and headed into the heart of Rehoboth Beach. Even with the cold wind and wet weather, the kids still wanted to see the ocean and the boardwalk. That lasted for about 5 minutes, just long enough to take a family selfie! We walked down the avenue and ducked into a couple stores to see what the local shops had to offer. Before you know it, we all wanted another bite to eat! For a couple years now we have heard nothing but rave reviews about the Henlopen Oyster House, and thankfully most of us love oysters. We got some seats at the bar in the window and began to make some choices for our first order. Brodie is not a fan of oysters, so he had fish & chips, which was huge! Thankfully his sister assisted with cleaning the plate. We enjoyed a variety of the oysters they offer, twice!

The day in general was a great one, quality time spent having silly and serious conversations with our teens without the interference of any screens makes for great memories all around. I highly suggest exploring the local area, introducing your children to some of the great offerings that surround us. I know it has given me a new appreciation for living on the shore, and I hope to do the same for my children.[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row]
